USB. I guess it’s the most popular storage device all over the planet. And most affordable. You don’t have to be wealthy to buy a USB flash drive. Quick and portable it can lay in your bag just in case if you suddenly need to save or get a very important file and don’t trust cloud services. Nowadays a USB drive is some kind of must-have in the fast world we live in.

External hard drive (HDD or SSD). Looks like it’s getting more popular. HDD or SSD takes more space in your pocket or bag, it’s more expensive than USB but has a larger capacity. Also, an HDD/SSD has a longer lifespan and better performance compare to a pen drive. If you have to carry your external hard drive in a bag, an SSD is a better solution for this. Thanks to the enclosure it’s better protected from physical damage than HDD.

NAS (network attached storage). Important notice: NAS is a pricey pleasure. It consists of several hard drives combined together in one device. It has its own filesystem. But nevertheless, it can be damaged, catch viruses or loose files. And file recovery might be more difficult than in case of USB or external hard drive. If you need to recover your NAS data you’ve got to use a special program like ReclaiMe file recovery software.
